Default Bradders' guitar sounds on the Interactive section.

Has anyone listened to the demo of the PRS 1980 West Street on the cd yet? The amount of gain Mr Bradley uses is nothing short of CRUSHING METAL. It makes the guitar sound like it could be any old cheapo with humbuckers, which isn't the impression I got from the review.

Any chance of calming it down a bit, Mr B?

I think your definition of a 'crushing metal' tone differs from mine.

You're thinking of buying the guitar then?

Maybe, but it'd not be the first time that anyone expressed the opinion that sometimes on some of the various demos (video, audio and CD) that either the tone used or the busy full-track meant that there was nothing distinctive to be heard.

You're thinking of buying the guitar then?

Nope, I'd absolutely agree with that. It's the mastering that's the problem though, not the guitar tones that are used for the various demos. With the PRS is was trying to show the sustain, hence the gain.

demo'ing a guitar or amp is a difficult task I think. Sorry to say that they all sound very similar to me tbh. I usually listen to the demos thru my PC, which isn't going to help, but then I bet most people do the same.

can't hear much (if any) difference between a Vintage and a PRS (on the demo CD)

Again, being honest I pay v little attention to the sound on the CD. It;s intersting, but not definitive and I suspect that's the intention - to add some colour to a written review.

It's a constant struggle as the demos do sound mostly the same - as I've said above - due to the mastering process.

"What's the point then?" you may legitimately ask. To be honest, as Snap suggests, if you can read a review of a product, check the pictures and hear it on the CD, that’s a pretty definitive ‘service’ that you get from your favourite guitar mag (sorry) to help with the all-important buying decision.

When it’s something like the Peavey Omniac that’s in the next issue, a guitar that has five very different tones, you can hear them clearly on the demo and that’s certainly the point.

Sadly we’ve moved away from doing full tunes and have concentrated on soundbites. I say sadly as we really enjoy flexing what we laughingly call our musical muscles.

Keep the CD suggestions coming as they’re gratefully received here.

I used to love some of the demo tracks. I used to listen to Jimi Savage's demo choon for the kramer striker in TG when I was a kid non-stop.
