    Default Muse... not worthy?

I've been playing guitar for a while now and musically it seems to me the older stuff is better. I'd rather listen to Van Halen than the kaiser chiefs! So when I saw the cover of total guitar declaring matthew Bellamy to be the successor of Eddie Van Halen. What the hell??? If Bellamy is the future of rock then things aren't looking good. Could someone explain how Bellamy is incredibly innovative please?

Lets look at Eddie, now he was and still is an incredible player, he really pushed the sonic capabilities of the guitar with his tapping , divebombs ,etc. Van Halen was also one of the big influences of the 80's metal scene. (when he was with Roth).

Now has Bellamy influenced and inspired countless musiscians??? Are his licks as good as Eddie's? I love VH and I've lsitened to a lot of Muse, I've even seen some of their live stuff.. did it impress me ...no. They just seem average, I can always tell if a gutiar part is special if it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end muse is jsut plain old boooooring , the guitar sucks and don't even get me started on the singing. Eddie Van Halen was something special, Bellamy can't even live up to his shadow.

Does anyone agree/disagree with me? please reply.

Yeah, I mean Matt Belamy hasn't pissed his talent and career up the wall even a tenth as well as EVH has.

Good is subjective. If people like Bellamy, then he's worth it. I really don't see your point. You're free to like whoever the hell you want, and so are we. I enjoy Muse and it's clearly not a band that aims to sound like Van Halen... I enjoy both bands. Wow weird eh? None are boring to me! I must be crazy or not normal for not finding Muse boring, as you seem to imply.

EVH is almost certainly a more innovative guitar player, but I think Bellamy is still a damn fine player. Furthermore, I personally prefer Muse's music to Van Halen's. I think the songs are better.

Muse are great, Bellamy is certainly talented and very innovative. Van Halen went crap after the first couple of albums anyway!

I like some of Van Halen's songs, but I've never really been awe inspired by them. EVH has always struck me as more speed than anything to be honest. I do rather enjoy Muse's stuff, although I think the older stuff is better.

EVH's playing certainly had more mass-market appeal.

Hmm different styles so difficult to judge.

EVH will probably influence more guitarists, Matt Bellamy will probably influence more people to form bands.

But EVH for me as I prefer his guitars........
Im bad to the bone. Just like Jesse, no Sid James
