    Hi,
The pictures of these amps in issue 293 are more artful than useful.

Are the valves really exposed in that way or is there a cover removed for the pikkies?

I thought pinkies had to be protected from hot bottles now and the fact that one could get smashed ( the valve not the player!) and expose lethal voltages?

At those prices titanium or platinum grills should be fitted!

    Dave.

More artful than useful - that's a good one.

    No grilles removed by us.

    Thanks for that Simon,

There are rules about access to objects hot enough to cause injury and I would say a 12W valve comes under them?

Magazine photos, yeah! Keep the arty stuff for the front page, inside the front page, back page, inside back page and the new products roundups.

When I read a review I want to see how it works! what the I/O is and read legending. Also text on coloured backround pisses me off and gives me a headache. We don't all have 20-20 30yr old eyes y'know!

Its no worse than a lightbulb and you're not made to have a cage around those. Just don't touch the b******y valve when its on... Or bash it, or anything else you wouldn't do to a lightbulb.

Every time I see one of those pitiful, gay, valve cages on so-called "reissue" amps it makes me sad.

Fascinating, but please explain why you feel this way about table lamps....

Me too Prof, there's nothing like a pair of Quad 11's glowing in the dark sweetly amping Bach ( no! I can't afford them)

But WE get stiched up and regulated our arses off here and in protectionist parts of the world. I just want a level playing field.

For ex' USA seems to have no plans to go lead free and I know from personal experience that has cost millions if not 10 to the 9's!

    Hi Rocker,

Well, you see them in 1940's films don't you and they always work. In practice no one ever replaced the lamp or they've pinched the fuse for the hair crimpper. And why sit in a dark room with a light behind you burning your neck? Just switch the bloody light on!

They are a hazard to the drinking muso and dogs and children.

BUT most of all I had to repair the clucking things when I was an appy' and they were a pain to re-wire!

    Hate 'em.

ecc83, why put the table lamp behind you? Table lamps are both decorative and functional. IMO two or three low wattage table lamps arranged around a room give softer and more comfortable room lighting than a central lamp or chandelier does.

Tip: place a (lit) shaded table lamp beside your TV and the picture is actually easier to see. It may not improve the picture in itself but your eyes have to work less hard to see the picture, which is the same thing anyway.

I usually listen to music in such a slightly darkened room. Unless when I am reading a book with the music playing in the background.

And is there not a spark of romance in your life. What can be more pleasant than a cup of coffee with your loved one in a softly lit room?
