In any case, it feels to me that you are trying to rationalise a plot hole. If you are going to introduce a race of giant eagles, capable of carrying a man, then getting one of them to carry someone to the mountain had to at least be considered as an option. It's a while since I read the book but I don't think this was discussed. Maybe it was. I'm sure you will correct me, if so

Who rattled your cage? I just mentioned something that had occurred to me and I thought it was kind of funny that it hadn't occurred to me once in the 30 years since I read the book...wasn't trying to be more clever than anyone. I didn't think your ways of explaining it away really held water. The eagles holding themselves apart from 'the affairs of men' sounded more plausible to me based on the way they are described in the books.

I genuinely wondered if you were taking the mickey because some of your explanations were quite long and convoluted. I thought maybe you thought I was being ridiculous for over-thinking what is basically a figment of someone's imagination. No offense intended.

the idea of kevin smith is sadly much greater than the actual kevin smith - dogma and mallrats were tolerable but the best thing he has done is red state imo which is the least kevin smithy film he has made - its funny because i thought they were all brill when i was 18 (probably all the cool swearing)
