Default Rattling / rumbling coming from speaker '72 Twin Reverb

Got a '72 Twin Reverb last week, sounded fine when tested at low-mid volume, but got to the practice room, turned up and there's a rumbling noise coming from the original speaker. (The left speaker has been replaced, and isn't rattling, it sounds fine). I took the grill off and the rumbling is definitely coming from the original speaker.

We also use a 40th Anniversary Twin Reverb (the blonde one) and a '94 Twin and they are quite a lot louder than the Silverface, the normal channel volume was sitting at around 8 and master around 8 - the other twins were just as loud at 4. It was only at this level I noticed the rumbling sound, I don't know if it's perhaps just that speaker...or if it's something else...? It only rumbled when I played chords (which sounded quite broken up) or low, bassy notes, twinkly stuff was OK, though not nearly glassy enough and the distortion sounded horrible until I turned down.

So in short - the main issues are: not enough volume, breaking up when I want absolutely zero breakup (or as close to zero as possible) and a rumbly speaker.

Try swapping the speakers around - that'll identify if the problem is speaker or amp related.

Sounds like the speaker has expired.

This is very common on Twin Reverbs.

A recone or new speaker would be the way forward.

Thanks for the help, I've ordered a pair of Jensen C12k's, will be posting for more help if it's still rumbling like a beast!
