Default GAS : BYOC Tube Screamer (Pics & Clips)

Been after a BYOC kit for a while now. Not done anything about it for various reasons and then Timmyo offered his Tube Screamer clone for sale. Snapped it up from him straight away and the very next day - it was in my hands!

First of all, the kit's are a piece of piss to assemble. Really really easy. I've built an Ampmaker 18w kit before, but apart from that, I've never done anything like this.

Would have finished yesterday but ran out of solder?! Doh! Picked some up today and finished the lot.

Total build time was about 1 hour. Maybe slightly more.

The genius thing about these kits is that they come with various components that enable you to modify your pedal. Mine has 2 chips and a selection of capacitors & diodes that enable me to change the pedal in numerous ways. I opted to simply recreate the original Ibanez TS808 as that's what I've had in the past and what I liked. Maybe in the near future I'll dabble with a few mods, but at the moment it's staying as standard.

Finished it - plugged straight in and it works! Result. No problems at all! Well chuffed.

Sound is awesome. Using it through my Epiphone Valve Junior head & cab (as discussed on previous thread) and it is stunning the sound you get. Really really nice valve tone. The pedal complements the amp very nicely.

Below are a few pics of the pedal (minus decals - tone, vol, etc) and some sound clips.

The two clips are fairly simple. 2006 Gibson Les Paul into TS clone then into Epi VJ head/cab. The volume on the amp is at 7 and all three controls on the pedal are a little over half-way. The two clips start off with amp alone then half-way through I switch the pedal on. Both clips are being attenuated through a hot plate set to -16db.

The overall volume is superb. Proper house levels. In fact, you can hear the click of the pedal it's that quiet! Real valve drive tones, at bedroom levels.

Well chuffed. Definitely getting me a few more BYOC pedals.

I built the delay pedal a couple of weeks ago, I was happily surprised that it worked first time seeing as it was the first time I'd done soldering on a circuit board.

I'm thinking about getting the overdrive pedal soon.

I can't recommend the OD enough.

From what I've seen on the various forums, etc - the OD is by far the most difficult to build, but it was still no problems.

I think the hardest part I found on doing the delay was trying to figure out what colours where on the resistors, it wasn't till after I'd finished that I realised I could have used my multimeter

Well that's where Timmyo came in. He sorted all the resistors into packets, labeled them up and then decided to sell the pedal! Result!
