Default Putting Band Music on Facebook

I was about to start a band page and upload some music using an app called BandPages from RootMusic.com

But then I noticed this in the T&Cs:

"Except as expressly provided in RootMusic’s privacy policy, you give RootMusic an unrestricted, revocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, publicly perform, transit and distribute any material that you submit to or through the Site or to us through email. You further agree that RootMusic has the right to use, without any payment or accounting to you or others, any concepts, know-how or ideas that you (and those who act on your behalf) transmit to or through the Site or to us through email."

Does that mean they would own any songs I upload!?

Anyone know any better ways to host audio on Facebook without giving up rights?

    Ta

Hey - I work at RootMusic and wanted to shed some light on your question.

We put those lines into our terms because we need to get musicians' permission to access and then play on Facebook. If musicians don't grant us this access, we are legally not allowed to stream their music in our application. Although it may seem like strong legal wording, we've been assured by legal that this is the minimum amount of permission we need to ask for in case to protect ourselves. We would never use your music for advertising or other purposes outside of BandPage without your consent - that's just rude! We want access to musicians' music so we can help them spread the word about what they're doing.

If you have seen more agreeable terms with other similar services they use, we're happy to have our lawyers take a closer look at certain parts to see if we can improve them. Feel free to email us at support@rootmusic.com if you have any other questions.
