Godlyke Power Pump (and similar)
Godlyke do a little dongle-y thing that turns 9v DC in to 18v DC (or other >9 amounts via a switch) for suitable pedals. They SAY that it can only be used with their 9v PSU. Is this likely to be true, or marketing guff ?
Red ones are better.
I would expect it'd work with most power supplies. It'll most likely just be a charge-pump device embedded in a cable.
I suspect they're just covering themselves. Some charge-pumps are quite inefficient and ddraw a lot of current compared to what they put out.

And before I go a-Googling, are charge pumps sold other than in the pedal arena (ie are they simply marked-up versions of generic things I might find elsewhere?)

You can buy the chips fairly easily and the circuits are simple. I'd imagine they're used in lots of applications, but I'd be mildly surprised if you could find a similar device being sold for any other purpose. They'd normally be integrated into something biggerer.
