Default Hello to the 'Rhythm' crowd

Hello (for when you guys and girls find your way over here)

I'm a guitarist about to embark on drum lessons in the new year, and I'm flogging some guitar & bass gear to buy a kit - all input and advice welcome

..and hello from another guitarist getting more into rhythm making. Though I have been playing ethnic percussion for a long while. :-)

Hello , yes I did. Picked up a Mapex kit and various cymbals.

I'm booked in for a lesson every 2 weeks here in Swindon - had 3 so far and it's going really well.

    whereabouts are you ?

I'm now out in Wiltshire - about 15 mins or so from Bath... I guess I'm about 45 mins from Swindon. Do you go to them, or do they come over to see you??

How's the kit working out? What Mapex kit is it and have you kept it small to begin with?

    Ha - all these questions!

PS... The Rhythm crowd?! There are other drumming magazines ya know ;o)

I go to Martin Ranscombe - he lives about 5 minutes from me and teaches from a home studio.

I scouted around at length and picked up s/h bargains. I got a Mapex Pro-M fusion shellpack, 70s Ludwig Supraphonic 400 (for £80 !) , Sabian HH fusion hats, Zildjian A Custom fast crash, TRX MDM Ride (although this is going as I have a Sabian HH Medium Ride on the way that I got for £55 on eBay!), DW5000 pedal (old single chain one) and an Iron Cobra hi-hat stand. In total I spent less than the RRP of the shellpack

I'm really enjoying it - the lessons are going well and my teachers seems to be very good - he makes me play everything normally then open handed and lead fills wrong-handed the wrong way around the kit and things like that. I was chatting with the drummer in our band and he said he wished he's learned like that from the outset.

what about you ? How long have you been playing / what sort of thing do you like ?

Another guitarist dabbling in drums here.

I have my Ion electronic kit set up now and I'm drumming along to MP3's. early doors but i'm having a lot of fun.
