Interesting looking through the links guys, thanks!

I'm aware of the BYOC kits and had a ESV fuzz kit (if I remember right) which, unfortunately I balls'd up somehow and currently resides in a drawer some where. I decided to order the parts for a simpler fuzz face schematic which I'm shortly going to wire up, free time allowing, and use the casing from that.

Sporky: I wanted to dabble in making a least one pedal myself just to see that I could really for now, but who knows in the future. I'm a real tinkerer with gadgets and for pulling things apart for sh*ts and giggles and to see how they tick. I'd be interested in delving deeper to gain some knowledge just for interest. Bit of a geek in that sense!

I built a lot of the projects in Craig Andertons book "Electronic Projects For Musicians" way back in the 80's, check the book out here:

The preface covers many things you need to know but I'm not sure where to get all the parts these days. The tube sound fuzz was the best one, I used mine onstage for a couple of years through a 100 watt Yamaha solid state amp. Got a lot of raised eyebrows from hired soundmen when they found out I was getting that sound without a tube amp. I went for the 'build from scratch' approach, using a piece of perf board and point to point solder with little bits of wire instead of ordering the printed circuit boards.
