    Question Anyone use a Cajon?

I think that's what I mean - wooden boxes with a hole and a built in snare.

Having seen a few folk bands this year these ( or something similar?) seem to be cropping up a lot.

Gear4music have an own brand one for £60 so they aren't ridiculous prices.

My experience with percussion is that it's always a lot harder than it looks - can you just sit on one of these and tap away or is there a proper skill set?

we have xmas and family birthdays coming up and looking at musical instruments more than yet another variation on a DS or a pair of socks so a cajon is on the possibles list.

My friend uses one at open mic nights.
It's a Natal one, he tried a few makes before buying his.

The drummer in one of my bands also plays in a folky/world music type outfit....he's got one. Watching him closely, and a few folk acts I've seen, it possibly looks simple, which I reckon means it's bloody difficult and you'd need to be a pretty good percussionist in the first place.

Hobgoblin stock some but I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for so probably just start cheap TBH.

what kind of stuff does he use it on? I associate them with modern folk but they are supposed to be for flamenco ( that there is a little pocket of flamneco enthusiasts in your neck of the woods seems a nice idea!).

He jams along with some people at open mic. I saw him do Glitter and Trauma by Biffy Clyro on it once!
He does solo acoustic gigs and uses it on some songs. He'll record a loop on his Boss looper then play guitar on top.

Actually, that's a great idea. My burd has mentioned wanting bongos in the past but a cajon could be more useful...

You mean as a stool rather than just being sat in the corner unplayed after the first few weeks...
