Default What's your most inspirational piece of drumming?

I'm going to be drumming in public next weekend (at a jazz carol service!) for the first time in a while. What's your most inspirational piece of drumming? Mine is Omar Hakim's climax to this song, it starts building at 2:00 and kicks up a gear at 3.00.

Apologies for being so obvious, but for me it has to be Mike Shrieve, all the way. The classic Soul Sacrifice with Santana. And all the percussion stuff too. Best drumming ever

Light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until they make a noise.

Wouldn't call it obvious: I've seen it before because I've seen the film, but I've never paid close attention to that piece drumming before. I like the way he's clearly into the music!

I'm not a drummer myself, but I do listen out from the drums and I have a few favourites..

Prince - both John Blackwell and Michael Bland were great drummers. For the former, The Everlasting Now is the highlight for me, for the latter, I'll go for Shhh off The Gold Experience. Just...class. Pure class.

There are a couple of moments by the band Therapy? that I love - notably Teethgrinder and If It Kills Me (two great drummers - Fyfe Ewing and Neil Cooper)

Do love a bit of metal too, but the clicky stuff doesn't interest me. There is one fill on a Slayer song (Behind The Crooked Cross) that is so un-Metal but works a treat and always makes me smile when the song gets to that part.

Neal Peart from Rush doing his drum solo and climax on YYZ (the exit stage left version)

    Awesomeness to the max

Surely one of the best drummers of all time?

This has to be the best Tool song for inspirational drums.

To be honest I could pick out inspirational drumming in tool songs all day long...its pretty much all awesome except for the glitchy bits in right in two.
