    Default What to buy?

Looking for a nice all round acoustic (sub £1k) for mainly hybrid playing (neil young/foo fighters/noodling). Not too fussed about solid woods or not, electrics arent important as i doubt ill gig it.

Main contender for me so far is either the Taylor 214 or a tokai OM shape. Not really looking for a dreadnought as i fancy something a little different and more biased to picking than strumming (but not overly)

    cheers

hmm, just noticed the GC3, the short-scale is appealing and so is the smaller body (i seem to like parlours as well, not sure why but i play them more!)

Have you tried the Faith Mercury Parlour? They are really nice and a great price.

Or also, look at some of the higher end alternate shaped Tanglewoods, the handcrafted TW45H is an excellent mini-jumbo and the "Florentine" TW45 FLM is really lovely, definitely different shape-wise, exceptionally pretty and sounds gorgeous!

Also, for fingerpicking I can highly recommend the Johnson Carolina all solid as it has a slightly wider than average nut width.

Or..... I do happen to have a used Larrivee L01 at £749 including Hiscox hard case, which is simply wonderful. Its been well looked after, but also well played, so it has mellowed wonderfully.

Intriguing, theyre on offer at coda atm for £200/£240 (mahogany/rosewood/) for both the 000 and Dreadnaught versions, im pretty temtped by them as for that price i wouldnt really mind how it sounds but then a part of me is thinking i should go the whole mile and get a top-end thing lol!

    .
that always amazes/annoys me as I truely do no see the relevance. Ive fingerpicked for over 30 years and TBH a wider board width is a hindrance not a help.

At that price I think it is probably the lower spec'd models. The all solid one has an RRP of £399 so probably wouldn't be quite as cheap as that even if on a sale offer.

I suppose that's a personal thing then, but I really do find these lend themselves more to fingerpicking than the standard steel-strung nut width, just feels more natural to me, not that you can't fingerpick on narrower fingerboards, just feels more natural when its slightly wider.

no no not at all.........everywhere......if a guitar has a 'wider than normal finger board' or its marketed as a 'fingerpickers guitar' - but why ? what the difference does it make FFS........seriously, think about it .........you fret a chord you fret a chord ? you dont fret it diffrerently just cos you're finger picking..........do you ? do you ? *puzzled look* (god I hate this shite forum s/w) I dont.....never have...........I know Im an odd-ball.......I learnt to fingerpick before I learnt any chords or to strumm........
