Default PC AV to ASIO conversion on Logic Audio 5.1 / Audigy

I have recently upgraded (!) from a Soundblaster Platinum to an Audigy to cheaply get Asio drivers on my PC running Logic Audio 5.1 - while still retaining the original breakout box on the front of the PC. When I open the song files I created with the previous soundcard, the system asks me to convert the song to ASIO format. When I click CONVERT, the song structure visibly changes, the audio plays at the wrong speed (mickey mouse vocals) and everything is out of sync with everything else - CALAMITY! Before I finally give in and smash my PC to dust with a sledge hammer, can anyone shed any light on a possible solution? This is just the latest in a succesion of BLOODY ANNOYING things I have found with both CREATIVE soundcards and LOGIC AUDIO...

    Default I agree

Ive had really bad trouble with Cubase and my SB live plat since I got it. Next time a large investment into decent sound card is inevitable. You can try the 3rd party drivers from http://come.to/sblive .They helped me help with getting the latency down on the SB live.Maybe they can help you with your problem.

never give up- i have lost more than i have gained in computer music production for 2 years now- lost money- wrong purchases- once i had been working for nearly six hours in a trance like state, forgetting to save, and my aptcomplex lost electricity and i lost every thing- cubasis corrupted all my files last week ( it's now a coaster for my drinks)- now music studio won't function with my audigy card...
    NEVER STOP!!
remember why you started in the first place! remember all the bands that have influenced you, all the times you've been walking down the street humming a beat to yourself... it'll come, keep trying!! :banghead:

I haven't heard of song files having to be converted just because you're using a different audio driver before!

It sounds like the sample rate has changed, probably from 44.1 kHz to 48 KHz. This would account for the timing and pitch changes.

Does that version of Logic give you a choice of sample rates with your soundcard (might be an option in the AUDIO menu, say SAMPLE RATE)? Try adjusting that and see whether it helps. If you had the wrong option chosen, that may be why it asked if you wanted to convert. With 44.1 kHz selected, it may offer to convert your songs back.

Like the SBLive!, the Audigy's internal sample rate is fixed at 48 kHz (to work in 44.1 KHz, it has to do conversions on the fly) - one reason some of us don't recommend these cards (though I use a Live! myself ...).

    Don't give up your music.....

Logic "problem"......Under the Options menu/Audio set-up you have the opportunity to change drivers - in fact there are two menu pages to do this. The first opportunity is to use PC-AV which is part of the MME setup. The second page gives the option of using ASIO. Whatever your choice, the driver becomes part of the logic song format and is saved within the .lso file. This means that if you have changed your driver since doing a last save on the song, the software recognises this and asks the question "Convert or not?" Its no hassle really and should not put you off music! The way around this is to open up your Autoload song, change to your prefered driver and than quit and save change and the question won't be asked again.

I have recently re-platformed and now find the ASIO driver to be quicker than the PC-AV and had your problem but it has now gone away.
