If you've ever wondered what it would be like to play an acoustic guitar with no low-end whatsoever...

i have an issue with the ibby acoustics.

seems like we had just got the acoustic market to a point where anything at that price would have a solid spruce or cedar top and laminate construction on the top was only seen at the very low end of the market.

then ibanez come along and try to make it a feature ???

"xotically-toned woods such as Spalted Maple, Sapele Pommele and Olive Ash Burl"

hmm, well i suppose sapele might just qualify as a tone wood since you could make a solid acoustic top from it ... But burled and spalted woods have no place in the sound producing engine of an acoustic

now I may be totally wrong here, but isnt the point of / target market for these, the kind of person that plays 99% plugged in and is looking for looks more than acoustic sound !?!?

I do also believe that someone on here bought one about 12 months ago ???

I'm not sure why burled wood would not be suitable for a tone wood ie top of an acoustic? The burl is caused by a a fast growing area of wood but is none the less dense for that - The exception would maybe be a burl caused by fungal or insect attack which may have the structure compromised in the same way as spalted wood .............which I entirely agree with you is definately not a candidate for a tone wood.

perhaps ask yourself why none of the big/famous/good luthiers/guitar makers use such wood for their tops ? Or better still, ask them

I think the point is that very few of Ibanez acoustics are made/renowned for their acoustic tone unplugged..............makes you think............

Yuk. Nearly as horrible as the Vai signature accoustic. The only pattern I'd want on the top of an accoustic is bearclaw and I'd still want it made from Spruce or Ceder.
