At the first GasFest I attended (2005) I think, we had the pleasure of seeing Guitarfreeek (is he still around?) playing his Vigier Fretless with his band... Superb

I can only speak from experience and on a neck that wasn't filled it twisted alarmingly , on the 2 Strats and Tele I have done it to , they were filled with plasticard and didn't move a jot

I have a Precision copy with the frets removed and the slots filled with araldite. It works fine.

John Etheridge used to play a fretless guitar occasionally. I could imagine it being no worse than a bass for solos, but intonating chords correctly could be so much of a PITA that you begin to realise why they invented frets.

logistics aside; how do you find playing fretless is? Tone wise and actual playability. I'm worried that if I do then the only way to play will be to shred or play fast. I'm a fan of eastern scalic formations but love the sound of swells and long sustain

If you're asking me about my bass ... you get used to it fairly quickly, but you have to play it regular to maintain your intonation. It's no good picking it up just when you have to 'cos you're doing a recording that requires a bass (and it's not your first instrument anyway). Often, that's what I do, so I've also got a fretted instrument

Tone wise, I do like it.

The Maple board worked a little better and I found that the flatter I could get the neck the clearer it sounded , works great with an ebow btw

Last seen by me on Twitter, seemingly working as a magician now!

(See the latest incarnation of the MIA thread, I think it's called "Where are they now?")
