Cheers, mate. I'll have a butchers at that forum later.

So, how does one go about choosing a coach/teacher? Are they all likely to teach me the same thing, as I'm still starting out? What should I look out for?

    Danke.

I'm quite a new singer. I only started a couple of months ago. I usually sing my own songs, and when it comes to covers, I only do stuff I'm reasonably comfortable with.

The problem is singing in key. If I pick up my guitar and just play say, an A, or F, or whatever, I can match it, but when it comes to playing a song I have real trouble. Sometimes flat, sometimes high. And this can be for different keys, ie: capo on 3rd, or open.

I understand head vs chest voice, breathing and posture. So I don't suspect that has much to do with it. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I almost always stand too.

Anyone got tips? Because I can't seem to see the light.

    Cheers
Are you saying you can't hit the notes correctly, first time? 'Coz that's down to practice... as may have been said, your voice is a muscle, and it needs exercising, so get some lessons and do some practice scales and arpeggios.

Think of it like pre-bending a string, and hitting the right note each time - it takes experience, feel and feedback from previous errors. When you sing a note, your vocal cords need to be at the correct tension, and you only get that right by doing it a lot, and getting it wrong the first few times, not by sticking auto-tune on it...

Keep going - if I can sing and not empty the Pub in one song, then anyone can!

More or less. I totally accept that I need to keep practicing, but I think it's a bit like playing tennis. Standing on your own pounding balls without someone telling you how to do it properly isn't going to make you a pro.

I think I've improved since I started, but I think guidance and practice are needed.
