But I found the Pod sounded drastically different in front of an amp to me. It was a little better in 4CM, but you shouldn't be forced to running it like that, esp. if you just want it for an effects board.
To me it seemed like it was an impedance mismatch. I tried setting the 2nd input to variax, making sure the signals were central and hard-panned. I tried the focus stuff, but all it really seemed to me was to be an EQ, and not really doing anything to correct for the input/output mismatch that I was experiencing.
Basically - it was noisy, and my amp seemed undergained when using it too, regardless of the input and output switches. I tested this by just putting a volume pedal in a patch, and nothing else, and having it at zero DB. Ideally in that situation, there should be very little difference between going into the HD500, and going into the amp without anything in the signal chain.
But the differences were drastic. I ended up selling it on. I do considering it a lot of faff; especially when they could've had an "effects only mode" and just cut out all of the extra crap that you have to deal with.
If you just want effects... get an M9 or M13 in my view.
